Deep Pinnacle
Osezaki · Japan
An isolated volcanic pinnacle rising from 45 metres to a summit at 22 metres, its flanks densely covered in large gorgonian sea fans and black coral trees that thrive in the consistent cold upwelling from Suruga Bay's deep basin. The pinnacle acts as a cleaning station and aggregation point — schools of large amberjack and striped bonito orbit the structure, while scorpionfish and anglerfish occupy the rubble and coralline algae at the base. Hammerhead sharks pass through on seasonal migrations from April to June. This is an advanced dive requiring solid buoyancy control and experience with moderate current.
