The Wall
Osezaki · Japan
Osezaki's signature wall plunges from 6 metres at the surface to beyond 40 metres, its face carpeted in dense colonies of soft coral in orange, white, and purple. The nutrient current sweeping up from the deep basin of Suruga Bay sustains the coral growth and draws enormous schools of yellowtail fusiliers that orbit the wall face throughout the day. Large grouper and moray eels occupy the crevices, and the wall's upper lip hosts some of Izu's most vibrant encrusting invertebrate communities. Best dived on the incoming tide when visibility opens up and the school density is highest.
