Beqa Passage
Pacific Harbour & Beqa Lagoon · Fiji
Beqa Passage is the main channel between Viti Levu and Beqa Island, a 2-kilometre wide tidal funnel that concentrates nutrient-rich water and draws pelagics through on strong currents. Schooling barracuda form tight tornado formations in the water column while hammerhead sharks patrol the deeper reaches below 30 metres during the cooler months. The passage walls are draped with sea fans and black coral trees, and potato cod and giant grouper hold territory in the overhangs. This is an advanced drift dive where buoyancy control and current-reading skills are essential.
