New Drop-Off
Palau Rock Islands South · Palau
New Drop-Off is a sheer vertical wall on the western outer reef where the plateau ends abruptly at 3 metres and the wall descends past 300 metres into the Philippine Sea. Grey reef sharks mass here in exceptional numbers, often 30 to 50 individuals, hovering in the current at 20 to 40 metres just off the wall face. The top of the wall is a hard-coral plateau with bumphead parrotfish herds feeding in the early morning, and the wall face is layered with sea fans, soft corals, and sponges. Considered one of Palau's premier shark encounter sites alongside Blue Corner.
