Siaes Tunnel
Palau Rock Islands South · Palau
Siaes Tunnel is a massive cavern system that cuts 60 metres horizontally through the outer reef wall before opening onto the deep blue of the western barrier reef drop-off. The tunnel entrance sits at 18 metres and descends to 30 metres where windows in the cave wall frame silhouetted sharks and barracuda against open ocean. The cave ceiling is encrusted with orange cup corals and the walls host sleeping nurse sharks. Outside the exit, the sheer wall plunges past 300 metres with grey reef sharks, Napoleon wrasse, and occasional hammerheads riding the upwellings.
