Cervera Shoal
Panglao · Philippines
Cervera Shoal is a submerged pinnacle rising from 35 metres to a rubble-and-coral summit at 12 metres, set in open water between Panglao and the strait toward Cebu, and it functions as a convergence point for macro life and open-water pelagics in the same dive. The shallow summit is a chaotic garden of encrusting coral, sponges, and cleaning stations where surgeonfish queue behind Spanish hogfish to have parasites removed, while the sand slopes radiating from the base of the pinnacle concentrate Pegasus seamoths walking on paired pectoral fins, stargazers buried flush with the sand, and thorny seahorses in their seasonal aggregations. On current-prone days the pinnacle's exposed faces gather chevron barracuda in tight spiralling schools and the odd passing reef shark, making Cervera a highly variable but always rewarding site for divers willing to time their visit to conditions.
