North Pinnacle
Pescador Island · Philippines
The North Pinnacle is a submerged rock pillar that rises from 35 metres to within 8 metres of the surface off the northern tip of Pescador. Current funnels around the pinnacle and creates a consistent upwelling that aggregates pelagics — thresher sharks circle the deep base during early morning dives, while big-eye trevally and rainbow runners school at mid-depth. The pinnacle's faces are festooned with gorgonian sea fans that reach 2 metres across, and the base is home to bumphead parrotfish in groups of 20 or more. Divers need to manage current and depth carefully but are rewarded with encounters that are hard to replicate elsewhere in the Visayas.
