The red lionfish drapes its venomous spines along the wreck's interior passages and railings, using the structure as ambush habitat. On the King Cruiser the population is notably large: the enclosed car decks trap small fish and create ideal hunting conditions. Divers should maintain at least 0.5 m clearance from any overhang as lionfish are stationary and easily brushed.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
