Rock Garden
Pigeon Island · Sri Lanka
Rock Garden sits on the eastern flank of Pigeon Island where large granite boulders tumble into 20 metres of water, their surfaces carpeted in encrusting sponges, sea fans, and soft corals in shades of purple, orange, and crimson. The boulder field creates a labyrinthine series of swimthroughs, overhangs, and narrow corridors that shelter lionfish, scorpionfish, and large moray eels. Visibility here is consistently the best of all Pigeon Island sites, often exceeding 25 metres in the peak dry season, and the current that sweeps around the eastern headland brings plankton that draws feeding fusiliers and the occasional pelagic visitor.
