Conger eels reach up to 2 metres and inhabit the rocky crevices of Secca del Cristo year-round, ambushing small fish and crustaceans at night. During the day they drape themselves visibly from cracks in the rock, making this one of the most reliable conger encounters in the Ligurian Sea. Their presence reflects the healthy invertebrate community that thrives in the reserve's protected waters.
