Halul Island Reef
Qatar · Qatar
Halul Island, 90 km east of Doha, is Qatar's most remote dive destination and also its most rewarding. The island sits in deeper, open Gulf water with better baseline visibility and a reef system that transitions from hard coral gardens at 6 metres to a sandy plateau at 25 metres scattered with large barrel sponges and feather stars. Hammerhead sharks are regularly sighted in the winter months, while dugong occasionally appear in the surrounding seagrass. The island itself is an oil terminal facility; access is strictly controlled and all dive trips require advance coordination with Qatari authorities.
