Green turtles use the Manko Maru as a regular resting station, wedging themselves under overhanging sections of the hull in a state of sleep-like torpor between foraging excursions. The wreck's abundant algae and sponge growth provides supplemental grazing opportunities, making it an attractive destination beyond mere shelter. Divers who approach slowly from below are often able to observe them at very close range without causing disturbance.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
