Boo Islands
Raja Ampat · Indonesia
A cluster of mushroom-shaped karst islets west of Misool whose underwater foundations plunge into cathedral walls encrusted from 3 m to 40 m with some of the densest soft-coral growth in Raja Ampat. The signature dive is Boo Rock, a submerged pinnacle fully draped in pink and orange Dendronephthya; tidal surges push plankton-rich water against the wall, drawing pygmy seahorses on sea fans, ornate ghost pipefish hovering in the current, and large schools of batfish circling the summit. Wobbegong sharks wedge into crevices at the base. Visibility regularly exceeds 25 m on incoming tide.
