A resident population of blacktip reef sharks patrols the deeper terraces and sandy channels around the HQ reef, providing a thrilling counterpoint to the site's more relaxed shallow diving. Their numbers fluctuate with the season but multiple individuals are present year-round, most actively hunting in the early morning alongside the bumphead parrotfish aggregations. As top predators, they maintain the trophic structure that allows Redang's unusually dense reef fish communities to thrive.
