The bumphead parrotfish school at Marine Park HQ is one of Redang's defining wildlife experiences, with groups of up to 50 individuals arriving shortly after sunrise to feed on the reef's massive Porites coral heads. Their synchronised ramming creates a distinctive cracking sound that travels far through the water column, serving as a natural alarm clock for early-morning divers. As the world's largest parrotfish, they are a key indicator of pristine reef health and effective marine protection.
