Green sea turtles are permanent residents at the HQ reef, with several individuals so accustomed to divers that they continue feeding unperturbed within arm's reach. Their grazing on algae and seagrass helps maintain the balance between coral and algal cover, particularly important as the reef recovers from periodic bleaching events. Redang's nesting beaches and protected reef habitat together support one of Peninsular Malaysia's most significant green turtle populations.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
