Nudibranch (Chromodoris)

Chromodoris willani

Sighting evidence at Teluk Dalam, Redang Island

The rubble and coral-rubble transition zones at Teluk Dalam support exceptional nudibranch diversity, with Chromodoris willani and related species crawling across sponge surfaces in search of their specific prey sponge. Their vivid colouration is aposematic, advertising chemical defences sequestered from the sponges they eat. Patient macro divers regularly document dozens of nudibranch species on a single dive at Teluk Dalam, making it one of Malaysia's finest sites for opisthobranch observation.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
