Ornate ghost pipefish appear at Teluk Dalam most reliably between May and September, drifting head-down among crinoid feathers and soft coral fronds in near-perfect camouflage. Unlike seahorses, the female carries the brood in a pouch formed by her enlarged pelvic fins, a reproductive reversal from the typical fish pattern. Spotting them requires slowing to a near-stop and scanning systematically across complex backgrounds, making each find feel genuinely earned.
