Green turtles in Réunion's lagoons feed predominantly on the seagrass beds behind the reef, returning to rest on the coral bommies at La Passe de l'Hermitage between grazing bouts. They are frequently encountered by beginners here, often resting motionless on the sand at 6 to 10 metres, tolerant of careful divers who maintain distance.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
