Kallithea Springs Reef

Rhodes · Greece

Directly below the Art Deco Kallithea thermal spa complex, a submerged rocky reef extends from 5 to 28 m, its ledges packed with moray eels, Mediterranean parrotfish, and a near-unbroken carpet of red and yellow sea sponges. Freshwater seeps from the old springs chill the shallows and create mild haloclines that refract light into electric ribbons across the limestone. The combination of archaeological context above and dense invertebrate life below makes this one of the Aegean's most atmospheric shore dives.
