Cod Hole
Ribbon Reefs & Cod Hole · Australia
The original celebrity dive site of the Great Barrier Reef. Giant potato cod — some exceeding 1.5 metres and 70 kilograms — have been conditioned to divers since the 1970s and will swim directly into your face at the cleaning station on the sand slope between 15 and 20 metres. Maori wrasse, large reef sharks, and moray eels share the site. Current is usually light inside the reef, making this accessible to Open Water divers, yet the marine life encounter density rivals anything in the Indo-Pacific.
