Pixie Pinnacle

Ribbon Reefs & Cod Hole · Australia

A slender coral spire on the outer edge of Ribbon Reef No. 10, dropping from 5 metres to a sand base at 30 metres. Every centimetre of the pinnacle is covered: wire coral, black coral trees, nudibranchs on every ledge, and tiny gobies hovering at the tips of sea whips. This is the premier macro site in the Ribbon Reef system. Currents sweep plankton past the structure, attracting feeding anthias in clouds and drawing in larger predators along the wall behind it.
