Yellow Wall of Texas
Rinca Island · Indonesia
A dramatic vertical wall on the northwest side of Rinca named for the dense yellow soft corals that blanket its surface from 5 m down to beyond 40 m. Strong upwellings from the Indian Ocean bring cold, nutrient-rich water that feeds huge sea fans, gorgonians, and massive barrel sponges. Reef sharks and eagle rays patrol the blue water off the wall edge.
