Caverne Profondes
Rodrigues Island · Mauritius
Caverne Profondes, or Deep Cave, is Rodrigues Island's signature dive site, a dramatic series of underwater tunnels and caverns plunging into the basaltic rock of the island's submerged shelf. The cave walls are covered in cup corals, sponges, and tubeworms that thrive in the low-light environment, while the cave exit opens onto an outer wall dropping to 40 metres where grey reef sharks and barracuda patrol. The pristine condition of this site reflects the very limited dive traffic that Rodrigues receives.
