Shark Ridge
Saba Bank · Netherlands (Caribbean)
A long spur of reef running roughly east to west along the northern edge of Saba Bank, Shark Ridge earns its name from the reliable presence of nurse sharks and, less predictably, Caribbean reef sharks cruising the wall drop-off. The ridge crest sits at around 20 metres and the wall falls away steeply to 40 metres before transitioning to a rubble slope. Coral cover along the crest is among the highest recorded anywhere on the Bank, with extensive stands of elkhorn coral in the shallower sections — a genuinely rare sight given how dramatically this species has declined region-wide. Intermediate to advanced divers are best suited to the current that sweeps along the ridge.
