Sandy Point Reef
Saint Kitts and Nevis · Saint Kitts and Nevis
Sandy Point at the northwest tip of Saint Kitts sits within a national marine park and offers one of the island's most intact shallow reef ecosystems — broad tables of elkhorn and staghorn coral have been recovering noticeably since the park's establishment, and the coral coverage rivals pre-bleaching records from the 1970s. The gentle sloping reef from 6 to 22 metres hosts Caribbean reef sharks patrolling the outer perimeter, dense parrotfish populations keeping algae in check, and large sea turtles that appear to have been resident here for many years based on local dive operator records. A dedicated night dive reveals octopus hunting and bioluminescent plankton.
