Coconut Point
Dive site
Coconut Point sits on the northwest corner of Upolu, where a rocky headland creates a natural current deflector that aggregates pelagic fish on both sides. The reef here drops in a series of terraces from 8 metres to 28 metres, with healthy coral cover including large Porites bombies draped in soft corals and crinoids. Schools of snapper and fusilier circle the point in large numbers, followed by steady patrols of grey reef sharks and the occasional silvertip shark coming up from deeper water. The point is best dived as a drift on incoming current, which carries divers around the headland and onto the lee side where visibility opens up and eagle rays are a regular sighting. This is one of Samoa's most reliably productive sites for larger marine life year-round.
