Eagle Point, Orcas Island
San Juan Islands · United States
Eagle Point on the southeastern tip of Orcas Island is a rocky headland where the seafloor plunges quickly to 28 m and the walls are covered in thick carpets of giant plumose anemones, encrusting sponge, and colonial tunicates. Giant Pacific octopus are regularly found in the boulder zone at 10 to 18 m. Schools of pile perch and black rockfish hold in the kelp just off the point. This is a boat-access site with moderate current on the tidal exchange, and one of the more remote and pristine dive sites in the archipelago — orca transiting Rosario Strait are visible from the surface.
