Schools of scalloped hammerheads patrol the mid-water column around the bank from spring through autumn, using the seamount as a navigational landmark on deep-ocean migration routes. They typically appear at 30 to 50 m depth along the eastern flank where the current accelerates, hunting the dense baitfish aggregations that the upwelling fuels. Encounters are more reliable at dawn and dusk when the sharks rise closer to the summit.
