Al Marjan Wreck 1 (MV Jasim)

Dive site

The MV Jasim is the largest vessel in the Al Marjan artificial reef cluster off Sharjah, a 60-metre cargo ship sunk in 2006 at 18 m that has developed into one of the most biodiverse wreck dives in the Arabian Gulf. The hull is now encrusted in hard and soft corals with a density unusual for Gulf waters, and resident hawksbill turtles are found resting on the superstructure on almost every dive. Schooling batfish and glassfish pack the interior holds, and the wreck acts as a cleaning station for large grouper that queue patiently at the bow. Whale sharks are occasional visitors to the wider Al Marjan area from November to February, drawn by plankton blooms in the shallow Gulf.
