Monkey Mia Seagrass Flats
Shark Bay · Australia
The vast Wooramel Seagrass Bank — the largest in the world — spreads across these shallows near the famous Monkey Mia dolphin beach. Snorkellers and divers explore meadows hosting hundreds of dugongs feeding on Amphibolis and Posidonia. Tiger sharks shadow the herds with the regularity documented in the Shark Bay Ecosystem Research Project. Depth is slight but the density of megafauna is extraordinary.
