Ras Um Sid
Sharm el Sheikh · Egypt
Ras Um Sid is Sharm el Sheikh's finest shore dive and one of the most celebrated coral wall dives in the Red Sea. The shallow reef top at 5 to 8 m is a mosaic of hard corals and darting reef fish, and then the wall drops sharply away beneath you, decorated with extraordinary growths of wire coral and gorgonian fans that reach out into the current. The concentration of marine life on this wall is exceptional: hundreds of glassfish shimmer around every coral head, their predators circling just outside. This site is most spectacular during afternoon dives when the light angles down the wall and brings every color alive, and night dives here reveal sleeping parrotfish and hunting lionfish in equal abundance.
