Dihamri Marine Reserve
Socotra Island · Yemen
Dihamri on Socotra's northeast coast is the island's most studied dive site and the closest thing to a managed marine protected area. Coral cover is exceptionally dense for the Arabian Sea, with table corals and brain corals forming continuous canopy at 8 to 18 metres. Green and hawksbill turtles are resident year-round. Schools of yellowfin goatfish hover over the sandy patches; spotted eagle rays make regular passes. The reserve boundary keeps fishing boats out and the fish density shows it.
