The Brothers Rocks
Socotra Island · Yemen
Two sea stacks on Socotra's south coast rise from 35 metres to just below the surface and act as aggregation points for everything in the water column. Schools of bigeye trevally and horse-eye jacks spiral around the pinnacles while whitetip reef sharks rest on the sand below. The encrusting coral on the rock faces is dense and colourful; nudibranch diversity is unusually high. Surface currents can be brisk and the entry-exit requires timing, but experienced divers find this the most dramatic site on the island.
