Embudhoo Canyon
South Male Atoll · Maldives
Embudhoo Canyon is a spectacular underwater gorge where fissures and overhangs create a labyrinth of passages draped in vibrant soft corals, sea fans, and black corals. The resident population of nurse sharks rests in the sandy gullies at the canyon base, while the overhead zone hosts Oriental sweetlips and giant moray eels. Strong incoming currents funnel reef manta rays through the canyon entrance on flood tides, creating exhilarating encounters.
