Padre Burgos Whale Shark Point
Southern Leyte / Sogod Bay · Philippines
The definitive Southern Leyte experience: resident whale sharks congregate in Sogod Bay's shallows around Padre Burgos throughout the year, drawn by plankton blooms in the nutrient-rich bay. Unlike Oslob, these are wild, unfed animals following their natural feeding behavior. Encounters happen in 5 to 20 metres of water over a sandy slope, with multiple individuals common on any given morning. Manta rays pass through regularly, and the sandy bottom hosts a surprising array of macro subjects — robust ghost pipefish, frogfish, and blue-ringed octopus among them.
