Double Wreck
St Eustatius (Statia) · Netherlands (Caribbean)
One of Statia's most celebrated dive sites, Double Wreck sits on the northern coast where two 18th-century merchant vessels lie partially overlapping on a sand bottom at 18 to 22 metres. The wooden hulls have long since dissolved but their iron cannons, anchors, and ballast stone piles remain as distinct archaeological signatures. Both wrecks date from Statia's golden era as 'The Golden Rock' of Caribbean trade, and the Statia Marine Park enforces strict no-touch and no-anchor rules to protect the historical artefacts. The sand between the wrecks is home to garden eels and flounder, while the surrounding reef hosts dense clouds of glassy sweepers and resting nurse sharks.
