Playa Brava Reef
Tayrona National Park · Colombia
Playa Brava's reef is a classic Caribbean coral garden stretching across a gentle slope from 5 to 22 m, where mountainous star coral and brain coral formations create a labyrinthine landscape of ridges and sandy channels. The site sits on the wilder eastern edge of Tayrona, receiving slightly stronger swells that push nutrient-rich water across the reef and attract larger pelagic visitors including barracuda and tarpon. Hawksbill turtles are year-round residents here, grazing on the abundant sponge growth between coral heads.
