Giant morays are keystone nocturnal predators at Labas, controlling populations of fish and crustaceans that shelter in the reef's complex coral matrix during the day. They are frequently observed in cooperative hunts with grouper, an extraordinary interspecies hunting behaviour documented across Indo-Pacific reefs. Multiple resident individuals occupy fixed territories in the large coral bommies along Labas's eastern wall.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
