Manta Reef Tofo
Tofo · Mozambique
Tofo's most celebrated dive site is a shallow cleaning station where reef manta rays arrive as reliably as the tides, hovering in patient loops above coral bommies while cleaner wrasse dart across their vast cephalic fins and disc-shaped bodies. The rays reach wingspans of 4 m and hang effortlessly in the current just metres above you, their white undersides visible against the deep blue. Mozambique Channel's warm but nutrient-rich water fuels enormous plankton blooms that keep the mantas coming back year after year. This is one of the most dependable manta encounters on the planet and no amount of words fully prepares you for looking up and seeing one glide overhead!
