Una Una Volcanic Wall
Togean Islands · Indonesia
Una Una is an active stratovolcano rising dramatically from Tomini Bay, and its underwater flanks are equally striking — black volcanic rock colonised by hard coral down to 30 m, then transitioning to a sand slope with rich rubble habitat. Whale sharks visit the bay seasonally, drawn by spawning aggregations around the volcanic headlands between March and May. Crocodilefish, robust ghost pipefish, and seamoth are reliably found on the sandy areas adjacent to the wall base. The island is rarely visited; encounters with other divers are almost nonexistent.
