French angelfish are abundant throughout the staghorn and brain coral formations, grazing on sponges and algae that would otherwise smother coral. They often move in mated pairs, territorial and bold, making close-up photography straightforward. Their prevalence is a reliable indicator of a reef in good ecological condition.
