Zero Fighter Wreck
Tufi · Papua New Guinea
A Japanese Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighter aircraft rests on the floor of one of Tufi's dramatic fjords at 17 meters, perfectly preserved in the cool, oxygen-poor depths that have protected it from significant biological fouling. The cockpit is intact and the aircraft lies upright as if prepared for another sortie — finding a WW2 fighter alone in a jungle fjord is one of the most atmospheric and surreal diving experiences in all of Papua New Guinea.
