Sighting evidence at Grace Bay Reef, Turks and Caicos Islands

Queen conch are a keystone grazer on Caribbean sandy flats, consuming algae and detritus that would otherwise smother seagrass beds. The Turks and Caicos maintain one of the few remaining legally harvested wild conch fisheries in the Caribbean, and the protected park areas around Grace Bay support dense populations recovering from decades of overfishing.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
