Golfo Nuevo Right Whale Grounds
Valdés Peninsula · Argentina
From June to November, southern right whales use the sheltered waters of Golfo Nuevo to calve and nurse their young, arriving from Antarctic feeding grounds. Snorkeling interactions are possible under permit; scuba diving near the whales is restricted but the gulf holds excellent reef diving with fur seals, rays, and large schools of fish. The underwater volcanic rock formations provide dramatic framing for animal encounters.
