Punta Norte Sea Lion Colony
Valdés Peninsula · Argentina
The northern tip of the peninsula holds one of the largest southern elephant seal and sea lion colonies in Patagonia, and underwater the scene is electric. Hundreds of South American sea lions use divers as toys — spiraling, blowing bubbles in your face, and tugging fins. Southern elephant seals occasionally wander through. The site is exposed to Patagonian swells so surface conditions can be rough, but underwater the animals provide ample distraction.
