Underwater at Cape Emine Boulders

Cape Emine Boulders

Dive site

At the southern end of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, Cape Emine is the easternmost point of the Balkan Mountains where limestone cliffs plunge into the sea and continue underwater as a tumble of massive boulders. The topography creates a complex three-dimensional swim-through environment down to 22 metres, with crevices sheltering conger eels, Black Sea hermit crabs, and nudibranchs. Anchovy schools sweep through the site in late summer. The site is exposed to north-east swells and is only diveable in calm conditions, making it less frequently visited than the Varna bay sites — rewarding those who make the 75 km drive south with less diver pressure and often better visibility.
