Anegada de Adentro
Veracruz Reef System · Mexico
Anegada de Adentro is a large platform reef in the inner zone of the Veracruz park, notable for exceptional turtle activity. Green and loggerhead turtles are present year-round, feeding on sponges and resting in coral overhangs. The reef architecture is dramatic — spur and groove formations channel current-fed nutrients and attract dense fish assemblages including large Nassau grouper, hogfish, and schools of blue tang. Nurse sharks rest in sandy pockets between coral heads. The site is sheltered from northerly fronts that can shut down outer reef access in winter, making it one of the most reliable year-round dives in the system.
