Galleguilla Reef
Veracruz Reef System · Mexico
Galleguilla is a northern outer reef that receives cleaner oceanic water and stronger currents than the inner park sites, producing notably richer pelagic life. Caribbean reef sharks are a consistent presence on the outer wall, often seen in groups of three to five individuals cruising the current. Large barracuda schools hang in the water column above the reef crest, and eagle rays pass through regularly from April to October. The coral architecture includes impressive coral towers and overhangs beginning at 8 meters, with the wall proper dropping to 30 meters. Atlantic spadefish and permit schools round out an exceptionally biodiverse site that rewards intermediate and advanced divers comfortable with current.
