Stiniva Cave
Vis Island · Croatia
A large sea cave on Vis's southeastern shore penetrates 60 m into the limestone cliff, with the ceiling dropping to a tight 4 m sump at the back that opens into an air pocket. The entrance walls are plastered with yellow and orange encrusting sponges, purple sea fans, and red coral fragments (Corallium rubrum). Large moray eels rest in wall crevices throughout, and a resident group of common dentex patrols the entrance zone. One of the Adriatic's finest cavern dives.
